As a special surprise for G’s recent accomplishments (graduation and confirmation), I planned a fun mother daughter trip to Chicago this summer! She loves Chicago…it is one of her favorite cities! Instead of just telling her we were going on a trip, I put together a slow reveal of the surprise.
Inside the four blue and yellow (her school colors) bags were clues about the surprise. I hung these across a magnet board using baker’s twine, along with a little “congrats” sign.
Each day G opened a new bag to reveal another clue about her surprise.
Day #1
A United States map…she knows we are going on a trip!
Day #2
A train…she knows we are traveling by train!
Day #3
She was close to figuring it out, so I gave away the location in clue #3. That left her very curious about the last clue. Oh, the anticipation!
Day #4
The details of our trip together…the dates, the itinerary, and tickets to see the musical Kinky Boots while we are in Chicago this summer.
Such a fun way to reveal a surprise! She opened these during the last week of school (before heading off to take her exams each day)…just a bit of excitement each morning. Now we need to plan more of our trip to Chicago!
